Secrets and Lies, and more Lies
My sucky job has me losing sleep, having headaches and just plain being miserable. I'm sending out resumes like crazy and actually landed an interview.

But I've jumped on the lie wagon and told my boss that I possibly broke my foot, yes, I said that, to buy me some time during the week where I can job search AND just don't have to be there. He was real nice about me taking the time to 'take care of myself' so I felt a tad, TAD guilty, but, too late now.

I broke my foot last summer and still have my crutches and my walking boot, sans cast. I was going to lie later and say something like, oh it turned out it wasn't really broken, just sprained or something like that where I can where the boot to work and look like I was 3/4 telling the truth.

Now I can't believe I'm weaving all these tales, and just wish I didn't have too. I've quit before without having anything elese lined up and I just don't want to do that again.

When/if someone offers me something, I'm going to hit the door running. But I don't want to do the 2 weeks thing, and on a job forum I was on one girl suggested I just resign and make that day the day I quit and not torture myself any longer.

I agree with that, as I wouldn't want to stay an extra hour let alone 2 weeks. So, I'm looking for suggestions/opinions on the resigning thing. I planned on just handing him the letter at the beginning of whatever day I deciced to quit and say something like, 'I've decided to quit, (hand over letter), and I can finish out the day if you'd like.'

I haven't even been at the job 2 weeks, and know I didn't REALLY give it a chance, but the time I've been there I'm not even interested anymore in giving it a chance. Employment is all I want, so if I get something that I like, why not leave, right?

Since I've been there so little time, do you think it really matters if I, for example, gave him my resignation letter on Tuesday and quit on Tuesday? The thing is, I'd actually feel a little bad, but not bad enought to give them two weeks. I just don't want too. And I realized it's not worth it to just stay there just because it's eaiser to stay than leave.

If it's possible to get out of the situation, I must make myself happy.

Good eat, Bad fortune

I went to a very nice Chinese restaurant a couple nights ago. Roomy, comfortable, good food and good service. At the end they always bring us those Almond cookies that I never liked and fortune cookies. I love fortune cookies, and always try to get everyone elses fortune cookie -- not so much for the fortune, but for the cookie.

Well, I get mine, eat it and then I read my fortune. Ahem, here is what it read:

The smart thing to do is not be your self.

Oooookay. Apparently that self isn't working so good. Did I read this wrong? Am I missing something with 'your self'? Even worse, my new job? Don't really like it. As a matter of fact, I'm back in the job search. Pathetic much? I think it was because I'd been looking for so long I was ready to take anything -- and I did. Mistake #1, even as happy as I was, still a mistake.

I know, it hasn't even been a week, but it only takes a few days to know, you know?

Well, like my mom says 'all you can do is what you can do until you can do something else.'

Ummm, yeah...
Wow, I can't believe the summer is over. If I were going back to school this semester, I'd be totally bummed. As it is, I'll be working. Paychecks are more fun anyway.

I seriously did nothing today but download stuff for The Sims. How lame is that? You've heard my rant on The Sims 2, so for the time being I'm still on the The Sims 1.

Well, now that I'll have a little pocket change, maybe I'll go out more.

Going out = fun
Going out with no money = boring, lame, depressing.

You get my drift. For my three readers, sorry for such a sad state of a post, but I'm really tired today. And I need cat food. I always need cat food. Sigh.

blog ya later

A sigh of relief...for now

I GOT THE JOB!

Okay, that's really all I had to say today. Except, I want to thank everyone who wished me good luck. I think the universal virtual collective worked.

Also, according to job predictor, which I stole from Undr who stole it elsewheres, my ideal job is Professional Hippie. (????) Let's see, I was previous unemployed, sat at home a lot, played video games, ate junk food, surfed the net and watched a lot of TV. I was already in my ideal job!

Sigh, why didn't someone tell me?

Don't just cry, be shattered and broken

I just got really deep into Anime last year or so, and I'm very, very picky because I'm not into the pixies and fantasy that is so popular, I like drama, shooting and deep, moving story lines. Yes, they exist volumionously in the world of Anime, in case you were wondering.

But I looked at one last night that stayed with me all day, and even prompted me to tell a couple people about it. It's Tsutomu Tatsumi's Grave of the Fireflies. This movie follows two young children, Seita, (14?) and Setsuko, (4?), and their cold struggle with survival.

It's nearing the end of WWII, their mother died in the bombing, their father is away at war, and Seita and Setsuko are ultimatly left on their own. They survive a while with a greedy aunt, who lets her depleting resources, the burden of two extra hungry mouths to feed, and her country in choas and ruin get the best of her. Soon, Seita decides their welcome was well worn out.

We follow Seita and Setsuko on their homeless journey, sleeping anywhere they find suitable, and eat with money their mother had in the bank -- which doesn't last long. What is truely heartbreaking, and at the same time wonderful about this film is the overwhealming realness it exhudes. The animation did nothing to hide or cover the raw agony and struggles these two children faced.

Adults did nothing to help -- one beating Seita and dragging him to jail for stealing potatoes. I will never forget Setsuko, and her beautiful childish innocent, playing in the dirt with a stick, running around with a sheet over her head for a cape, laughing, joking, smiling, hugging her brother and simply being a 4-year-old, who may not have understood just how hopeless her situation was.

That's what was so heartbreaking. She took simple pleasure in eating out her container of 'fruit drops' her favorite, and even that became extinct very soon, suddenly making it real for Setsuko the situation they were in. They starve, fear the unknown and cling to each other as their only source of salvation, while all we can do is watch.

The voice work, as well as the animation, are perfect, not to mention such small details, like Setsuko's expressions and actions, as well as stabbing scenes such as Seita's anguish when he takes his starving, sick, diarrhea inflicted sister to the doctor and the doctor simply directs her to eat. "Where am I supposed to get food?!" an overwhealmed, angry and frustrated Seita screams. I'll never forget it. The doctor could care less.

The landscapes of the beaches, streets, and a bombed out Japan were also excellent, and, unfortunetly, so were the adults in the movie, from soldiers, to the childrens actual family members to the strangers on the street, who only thought about themselves, and saw the starving kids as an inconvience and bad for the scenary.

Honestly, I have never seen a more sad, depressing, heartbreaking, unforgettable, moving, brutally real and flawlessly directed Anime such as this one. And yet, it is well worth seeing.

It is also a movie ("Hotaru no Haka") and based on a semi-autobiographical book by Akiyuki Nosaka.

The images and events of this movie are still swimming in my head. I, of course, rented it at Netflix, since I'm obsessed with that site. So, if you get a chance to check it out, again, I highly reccomend it.

Astonishing.

Hmm, ipod or PSP?

A lot of people want an ipod. I'm not really one of them. Hey, I love my itunes, I love music, and I know I would certainly get some use out of my ipod. In fact, I'm sitting here right now listening to 'Holla Back Girl' by Gwen Stefani, and I don't even really like that song, but I love listening to itunes while I ride the net. But I had a few people note they wanted a ipod in my comments, (what's up Undr?) So, I thought I'd say something about it.

There's still a lot of ipod jacking going on in NY too. Nothing against New Yorkers, but I totally buy all that. I wouldn't want to have anything nice riding NY subways. Not that people don't get jacked here in Chicago, but I'm not hearing it about.

I want a PSP because inside I'm still ten-years old and didn't get all my ya-ya's out playing video games back in the day. Hey, I got a Nintendo late in life, okay? And when I did, I spent endless nights playing Super Mario Brothers, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Burger Time and Friday the Thirteenth. (Ahh, those were the days.)

Even considering there doesn't seem to be that much out there I want to play on the PSP besides Lumines and GTA: Liberty City Stories, I still want one. My birthday is in December if anyone is interested.

Seriously. December, ya'll.

My own life ennui
In an attempt to take my mind off my upcoming job interview, I decided to do a condensed (and slightly changed) version of an 'about me' list that I discovered on ennuiherself. I liked the list, and with my geeky self, I thought of Joey on Dawson's Creek when she asked Pacey "What's with the life ennui?" when he was sort of sulking and self-debating. At any rate, here's my version:

What I was doing five years ago?
2000 (in my twenties): In school, wondering what the hell I was going to do once I graduated. Drifting, trying to write, write, write. Wishing I could do it all over.

What I was doing one year ago?
2004 (still twenty something): Beginning my novel, thinking about getting a masters in creative writing. Joined a writing group and listened to horror stories about query letters and rejection letters.

Doritoes

Double Stuff Oreos

Krunchers

"Memoirs of a Geisha" (Arthur Golden)

Pay off my debts, my mom's debts, my sisters debts

Buy a house

Buy a car

Donate to many animal charities/start caravan to pick up hurt/homeless stray animals

blog of the job...hopeful?
I have a job interview on Tuesday, and what I hate worse than job interviews are...job interviews. I want to be positive, but all the preparation in the world isn't going to help me be less nervous. Since I'm going back to school this fall, a job (like this one) that is willing to work around my schedule is essential.

I'll tell you, it's really hard to find a job that is willing to cater to a school schedule. Most people want the standard 9-5 time frame available. I've been on Interview Tip sites all day, and I've prepared some scripts to the obvious questions, 'tell me about yourself', 'tell me about your last position,' etc.

I just hope I can get through it without passing out.

GAH!

I'm telling myself it'll be over before I know it. That's usually how a lot of things happen. You anticipate something, and before you know it, you're sitting around talking about the event that happend two months ago, wondering where time went.

I wish today was next wedensday, then it'll be over. Well, venting here is helping. A little.

It sucks even worse when you really need the job.

GAH Again!

Okay, off to cry in a dark corner now.

"The Sims 2" and our love/hate relationship

I love The Sims, and I also shop a lot on Amazon.com, but that's besides the point. I use a mac, and as other mac users know, there are about, ohhhh, 8 games out there made to play on a mac.

So, needless to say I was overjoyed when The Sims 2 finally showed up on the mac. Whoo hoo! Until, I saw the requirements. 1.2GHz? Mac OS X 10.3.8? 3GB of free space?

Not to mention that pretty much all the reviews I read bashed it for the crashes. Even worse, one reviewer said there was a cap on the downloads. Now, I don't know about the average, or the next Sim player, but I can't play without downloads. Have you seen the crap that comes with the games? Please. If I can't mod the sims, gameplay can be a snooze fest.

It's already bad that the Sims 1 on my computer takes 30 minutes to load because of downloads. And it dumps me back to the desktop and reloads in the middle of the game numerous times because of the thousands of downloads, but I gotta have 'em.

I'm sorely dissapointed in Aspyr Media for not fixing these crashes and giving Mac users the same thing they give to their PC users. They don't have a download cap, why should we get one?

I was all ready to buy this until a reviewer said not to bother and wait until they fix the bugs and re-release it. True, I don't need the Sims, but I wanted it.

I guess I'll go back to The Sims 1.

Sometimes I wish I had a cell phone
I went out yesterday and didn't end up where I thought I would. So, I decided to call up my sister and see if she wanted to meet somewhere, since it was still early.

Well, la dee da, you would think that wouldn't be hard right? Anyway, I look around for a pay phone.

None.

I keep looking, and after ten minutes, I just decided to go into Target since it was close by.

There is this woman raggling on and on about getting her phone turned on. I mean, she sounds so pathetic, and I guess she would, with no phone, but she's going on and on "I'm trying to see about getting my phone cut back on?"

I sit down to wait, and she repeates her phone number, her name, her address and spells them for added measure.

Then she waits, listening to the other person, and soon she's asking the same bloody question, "I'm trying to see about getting my phone turned back on?" Then again with the phone question and spelling of the address and name and number.

Seriously, who was customer service? Goats on hash? She goes on and on, until I decide to go back out and into two nearby stores to look for a phone, with no luck. I didn't want to go far since I was going to ask my sis to meet me in that area.

But damn! I wanted to grab the receiver and bang her over the head with it. I seriously wanted to go Phone Booth on her.

Seriously.

The kicker? She FINALLY gets off the phone and I get on and IT DOESN'T WORK! WTF?

I stood there for thirty seconds of my quarters falling down into the little change retriever.

Who was she talking too? Did she have a calling card? I didn't see it. What the hell?
That moment made me wish I'd a cell phone. Would have saved me a real big headache.

Oh, and I never did get to call my sister.

God bless DVD's

I'm a DVD junkie, and if I ever get my Netflix blog up and running, I will be able to ramble on and on over there instead of here. Alas, it's not. Anyway, one of my favorite things on DVD is TV on DVD, and aside from my crippling obsession with BtVS and Angel, I also love Seinfeld, The Simpsons, Roswell, La Femme Nikita, Smallville, Good Times, and Alias, among countless others.

I also love The X-Files, and was a bit frantic to see the new collection of DVD's they have out. You've seen them in your best buy paper. They're mythology episodes and center around the abductions or the bees and whatnot. Think it's Fox repackaging the show for more money? Then you thought right. But because I'm easily duped on such things, I want it.

I love The X-Files and want all nine season, but I have my favorite seasons, season four being one of them. I especially love episodes Small Potatoes, Home, Elgy, Unruhe, Leonard Betts, Never Again, Demons, Paper Hearts, and Kaddish. Seeing Scully date, speak German, kick ass with a defibrillator, take care of a naked mulder, joke about being a mom and talk to an amputee strapped to a board under a bed is the season for me.

Scully rocks.

Speaking of the X-Files, I was on a forum and they were talking about the second X-Files movie, (XF2) that will most likely never happen. I for one would like to see it happen, if for no other reason get the bad taste of the last season of the series out of my mouth.

What kind of ending was Season Nine, people? Blech. Are Scully and Mulder on the run now? Is William, Scully and Mulder's baby really going to be okay? I just thought it wrapped up sort of jumbled and messy. But don't get me started on the ending of my favorite shows Buffy and Angel Ugh.

Beware of your panties, ladies
Ahhh, who doesn't love panties? They're soft, or silky or lacy or ruffly. They come in lots of pretty colors, styles and sizes. And most importantly, they seperate us from harsh jeans.

Men may love panties for a variety of reasons. They're soft, they're enticing, they're sexy. And they may be useful in an entirely different way.

With forget-me-not-panties you might have to double check your undies.
